一年生の農業と環境の授業では、成長しつつある白菜と大根の世話を行いました。白菜には、その株元に追加の肥料を撒きました。大根は種を２つずつ撒いています。同じ箇所から生えている２本のうち劣っている片方を間引きました。間引く基準を指導された後、生徒は成長が良い方や葉が元気な方を判断して残して、もう一方を抜きました。機械化が進む農業ですが、機械に任せることができず手作業で丁寧に行う必要のあるこのような作業もまだまだあります。
In the first-year Agriculture and Environment class, students continued caring for their Chinese cabbages and Daikon radishes. They applied additional fertilizer around the base of Chinese cabbages. As for Daikon radish, two seedlings had sprouted from the same spot because two seeds were sown there. That’s why thinning was necessary. Following the teacher’s instructions, students removed the weaker seedling, which they evaluated as the one with slower growth and less healthy leaves. Though automation in agriculture is progressing, there are still important tasks like these that require careful handwork and cannot be replaced by machinery.
