1学年の生物の授業で、トンボの捕獲と観察を行いました。虫捕り網を片手に本校の敷地内を歩き回りながら、1時間かけてトンボを捕獲しました。天候に恵まれた秋空の下、飛び交うトンボを追って走る生徒たちの姿はとても生き生きとしており、「自分のトンボは自分で捕まえたい！」という気持ちが伝わってくるようでした。
トンボを見つけると、素早く網を振るい、捕獲した後は、慎重に素手で網から取り出してパラフィン紙に丁寧に挟みます。最初は戸惑っていた生徒も、次第に扱いに慣れ、自然とのふれあいを楽しんでいる様子が印象的でした。
捕まえたトンボはじっくりと観察し、羽の模様や体のつくりから種類を特定します。自らの手で捕まえたトンボだからこそ、観察にも自然と力が入り、学びの深まりが感じられました。机上だけでは得られない、生きた学びの時間となりました。
In the first-year biology class, students tried catching and observing dragonflies. With nets in their hands, they walked around the school for one hour. The sky was clear and blue, and the students ran after dragonflies with a lot of energy. Many of them said, “I want to catch my own dragonfly!”
When they found a dragonfly, they swung the net quickly. After catching it, they carefully took it out by hand and put it between paper. At first, some students were nervous, but soon they became used to it and enjoyed being in nature.
The students then looked closely at the dragonflies. They checked the wings and the body to find the type. Because they caught the dragonflies themselves, they were more interested in the observation. It was good practice and gave them a kind of learning that books alone cannot give.
