10月31日（木）環境創造コース２年生とクマ対策を研究している３年生は木島平村和栗地区において、かねてより予定していたシブガキ応援隊（クマを誘引する柿を収穫や緩衝帯整備を行う）を実施しました。
柿の収穫を担当した生徒は、高所作業車や三脚にのり、高枝切りバサミをつかって作業を行いました。今年度は裏年（果実がよく実らない年）で、柿の数は少なかったものの、高い位置に着生している柿の収穫には時間を要しました。緩衝帯整備を担当した生徒は、鎌で草を刈り、鋸で木を切り、森と居住区の間に緩衝帯を作りました。
今回の取り組みによるクマ対策への効果は如何ほどに。これは今後のクマの出没状況等をみながら判断していくことになります。
On Thursday, October 31st, second-year students from the Environmental Creation Course and third-year students studying bear prevention carried out the long-planned project in the Wakuri area of Kijimadaira Village: harvesting Japanese persimmons that attract bears and developing a buffer zone.
The students responsible for kaki harvesting picked the fruit with high-branch scissors, working on an aerial work platform or on a tripod. Though this year had a poor harvest and the number of Japanese persimmons were limited, it took them time to remove the persimmons growing on the higher branches.Meanwhile, the students responsible for buffer zone maintenance mowed grass with sickles and cut down trees with saws to develop a buffer zone between the forest and the residential area.
Will their efforts reduce bear appearances? We will see the impact from the future bear population and other factors.
