１０月下旬に木島平村和栗地区において、柿を収穫することによりクマ出没を抑えるための活動「シブガキ応援隊」が予定されています。１０月１０日（木）「シブガキ応援隊」を構成する環境創造コース２年生は、同地区においてクマの出没状況を確認するために、センサーカメラを設置しました。
隊員は山林と畑の境界付近のクマの餌となる柿やドングリがある場所や通り道になっていそうなところ数カ所にカメラを設置しました。昨年度は６分の５のカメラにクマが写っていたそうですが、山林と畑の境界線の除草を行った今年度、その効果はどれくらいか、隊員はおよそ３週間後の映像の回収と検証に期待を寄せていました
In late October, “Shibugaki Support Team” is scheduled to carry out an activity in the Waguri district of Kijimadaira Village. The purpose of the activity is to prevent bears from approaching human habitations by taking kaki Japanese persimmons away. On Thursday, October 10th, second-year students from the Environmental Creation Course, who make up the “Shibugaki Support Team”, set up sensor cameras to monitor the bears in the area.
The team members installed cameras at several locations near the border between the mountain forests and fields. These areas have persimmons and acorns, which are bears’ favorite food, and some spots where bears are likely to pass by. Last year, five out of six cameras captured the image of bears. This year, the students mowed the grass in the border, so they are looking forward to reviewing the camera footage in about three weeks to find out the impact of their work.
