９月２９日に木島平村和栗にて地域のボランティア１７名、生徒有志１８名が草刈り大作戦に挑みました。この活動は、環境創造コース３年のツキノワグマ研究班が、クマが人里に近寄りにくい環境をつくるために企画されたもので、クマによる人身事故等を未然に防ぎたいという思いから始まりました。
この日は多くの人の参加もあり予定した面積より多くの草を刈ることができました。クマさんは近寄りにくいでしょう。高校生発の活動が各地に広がればと思います。
On September 29th, 17 local volunteers and 18 student volunteers participated in a large-scale mowing in Wakuri, Kijimadaira Village. This activity was planned by the third-year students from the Environmental Creation Course’s black bear research group. They have been working to create an environment where bears are less likely to approach human settlements and to help prevent any bear-related accidents or injuries.
Thanks to the many participants, we were able to cut more grass than we had planned. Hopefully, this will have the bears at bay. We hope that this type of student-led activity will inspire similar efforts in other areas.
