６月上旬に播種したホウキモロコシが成熟期をむかえました。
８月27日（火）環境創造コース２年生は、ホウキモロコシを収穫しました。生徒は穂首節からひとつ下の節のところで切除し、茎がついた穂の部分を収穫しました。一般の作物とは少し変わった収穫方法です。これは、子実を得ることを目的としていないからです。あくまで収穫物の用途は箒の材料であり、茎の部分はホウキの柄になります。
収穫部位の葉や葉鞘部分を取り除き、一定量で結束し、さらに自然乾燥させるために、棒にかけました。
今後、脱穀をへて材料がそろったところで箒を製作する予定です。
The broomcorn that students sowed in early June has now matured.
On Tuesday August 27, second-year students in the Environmental Creation Course harvested the broomcorn. The students cut just below the first node from the head to harvest the part with the stalk attached. This method is unique because the goal is not to harvest the grains but to use the panicle for broom-making, with the stalk serving as the broom's handle.
After harvesting, the leaf sheaths, which cover the stalks, and the leaves are removed. Then, the crops were tied in fixed quantities and hung on poles for natural drying.
Once the drying process is complete and the materials are threshed, we plan to use them to make brooms.
