４月２０日（土）環境創造コース２年生は下高井郡内のとある場所に竹を取りに行きました。
生徒は、山の斜面に群生していている竹の中から、根元の部位が直径約１０cmのものを選び、ノコギリを使って切り倒しました。ゆうに６mを超え重量もそれなりにある竹を、３人から５人がかりで広場まで運びました。そして不要な枝葉を払い、さらにトラックに積載可能な長さにカットしました。
ところで、なぜ竹を取る必要があったのでしょうか？実は、この竹、バンブーキャンドル作りや飯盒炊爨で使うものです。また、竹林は手入れをしてあげないと、急速に生息域を拡大してしまいます。多少なりとも竹林の整備に貢献するという意味もあります。
さて、無事に竹取を終えた生徒は、バンブーキャンドル作りや飯盒炊爨に期待を膨らませていました。
On Saturday, April 20, second-year students in the Environmental Creation Course went to a mountain in Shimotakai District to get bamboo. The students selected bamboos with the root part about 10 cm in diameter growing in clusters on the mountain slopes and cut them down using a saw. Three to five students worked together to carry the bamboo, which was more than 6 meters long and relatively heavy. They stripped unnecessary branches and leaves, and then cut the bamboo into lengths that could loaded onto trucks.
Why did they need to take bamboo? Actually, the bamboo is used for making “Bamboo Candles” and cooking rice. Also, if bamboo forests remain unattended, they will rapidly spread and expand their habitat. Therefore, that contributes to the maintenance of bamboo forests in some small way.
Now, having successfully completed the bamboo-picking process, the students were eagerly anticipating making bamboo candles and cooking rice.
