The English language is at the centre of global trade and exchange in the 21st century. It is the language of choice for international scientific research and world news. Having a strong English ability and understanding of international affairs is therefore vital as the world becomes smaller and more interconnected every day through the process of globalization.
The International Cultural Studies course at Someya is designed to provide you with the foundations to work in such a global community. It not only gives you the opportunity to enhance your English communication, research and presentation skills at an accelerated rate but also, thanks to the design of the course, use them to interact with the new friends you will make during international programs and schools trips. Such an unique program overseen by a team of committed and dedicated teachers is extremely rare in Japan. If you have an international mindset and want to be better prepared to work in a global environment then this is an opportunity not to be missed!

Do you want to use English in your future?  Do you have an interest in traveling abroad and/or meeting people from other countries such as Taiwan, South Korea, and Australia?  Do you enjoy learning about cultures that are not your own?  Have you ever given thought to learning another language like Spanish, French, Korean or Chinese?  Then Someya’s International Course is the place for you!  If you join this special course, you will be able to do all of these things and more!  It’s an experience of a lifetime that will impact you in more ways than you can imagine.  Your worldview will be broadened and enlightened thanks to the amazing teachers that are here to support you along your journey here.  Not to mention your potential future classmates!  Each student has a unique background to be shared.  I dare to say that you will build relationships that will truly affect the rest of your life.

You must be tired after studying hard all day, right? Maybe you want some time out to relax? Well, there’s some good news! Here at Someya there is an English area where you can take a break and enjoy yourself. Located just outside the English staff room are lots of bi-lingual manga you can read as well as over one hundred English movies (with Japanese subtitles, of course!) you can borrow and take home to watch. You can enjoy learning English in a fun way which doesn’t even feel like study! How awesome is that!?

At Someya, English classes are more than just about learning the language itself - you also have the opportunity to learn about special events and festivals popular in western culture. The friendly ALTs are very happy to talk to you about the traditions and customs in their own countries, as well as their personal history with Easter, Halloween and Christmas. You will be able to hear their unique perspective on many things which you won’t find anywhere else!
