Broadleaf Forests Study Tour

On Thursday, September 3, 13 second-year students in the Environmental Creation Course went on a study tour of a broadleaf forest. They were guided by staff from Nabekura Plateau Mori no Ie and walked about 5 km round trip from Chayaike Pond to the top of Mt. Nabekura.

Unfortunately it was raining that day. However, students enjoyed trekking in the rain while seeing how forests work like a green dam and hold water.

One of the tour guides said, “Beech trees are very strong and can withstand heavy snow during winter. It’s safe for all of you to climb a beech tree together.” Students climbed a beech tree, half believing he they said. They took pictures and were amazed by the strength of the beech tree, which did not break even when they all climbed it.

When we close our eyes and take a deep breath in nature, we can hear many sounds that we don’t usually notice. It was a peaceful day of trekking that helped us refresh our senses.
