In the first-year Agriculture and Environment class, students processed spent hens after studying poultry for a year. Hens that have grown old and no longer lay eggs are called “spent hens”. The hens used this time were three years old.
Under the teachers’ guidance, students first bled the hens and then separated them into parts such as legs, wings, breast meat, and internal organs. This hands-on class required anatomical knowledge from biology in addition to what they learn in agriculture.
