高い山の頂が白くなった11月6日（木）環境創造コース2年生は、飯山市中央橋によしずを設置する「よしず張り」を行いました。橋の歩道北側によしずを張り、風雪から通行人を守ることが目的で、よしなどの植物由来の資材を使うことは、カーボンニュートラルに貢献します。北信建設事務所と協働で、毎年行われるこのよしず張り。今ではすっかり定着し、この時期の風物詩となっています。
生徒は、授業で身につけた「シュロ縄いぼ結び」で、橋の欄干とよしずを結束しました。当初、練習とは異なる環境に戸惑っていた生徒も、次第に要領を得て、次々によしずを張っていきました。ある生徒は「歩道の安全通行に役立てたらうれしい」と話していました。１時間あまりをかけて１００枚のよしずを張り終え、本格的な冬を迎える準備ができました
On Thursday, November 6, as the peaks of the high mountains turned white, second-year students in the Environmental Creation Course installed yoshizu-bari (reed screens) on Iiyama City’s Chuo Bridge. The screens were set up along the north side of the bridge’s sidewalk to protect pedestrians from wind and snow. Using plant-based materials such as reeds also contributes to carbon neutrality. Conducted annually in collaboration with the Hokushin Construction Office, this yoshizu-bari has now become a familiar seasonal tradition in the community.
The students tied the reed screens to the bridge railings using the shuro-nawa ibo knot technique they had learned in class. At first, some students were unsure in the unfamiliar outdoor setting, but they gradually got the hang of it and began attaching the screens one after another. One student said, “I’ll be happy if this helps ensure safe passage for pedestrians.” After a little over an hour, they had finished installing 100 reed screens—ready to welcome the arrival of winter in earnest.
