イングリッシュ・イマージョン・ウィーク（English Immersion Week）

　本年度より本格施行になったイングリッシュ・イマージョン・ウィークは、英語を日常的に使う雰囲気を学校全体で作り出し、英語以外の全ての教科授業、学校活動においても英語をなるべく取り入れ、英語への学習意欲喚起に繋げようとするものです。

1. 推進期間中のすべての授業、教育活動の場面で、授業内容に関わるキーフレーズとなる事項の英語の語句を毎時間10個程度準備し、本来の授業の中に織り込みながら授業を進めます。なお、可能な範囲で、学習プリントなどにも英語併記を心がけます。
2. 挨拶や学級活動の中での指示、板書等に英語表記を推奨します。
3. 校内に英語の標語、ポスターを掲示します。
4. ホームルーム活動時に英語科または国際系コース生徒による英語放送で全校が英語に親しみます。
5. お昼の放送委員会活動の放送も英語の曲を流すなどして英語に浸かります。

E-Week　最新情報

１月２７日（月）

　E-Week中は、朝のSHRの時間に英語科生徒による英語の放送があります。今日はその初日。今日の天気や運勢、英語のワンポイントアドバイスなどの内容で、放送されました。（右写真は放送室の様子）初日ということで、校長先生から英語によるスピーチもありました。その内容は次のとおり。

　Good morning, everyone. This is Nakazawa speaking on the school broadcast.
　I am very glad to announce that Nakano-Nishi High School is going to have “English Immersion Week” from today. We call this event E. week. Last year at this time, we had the first one. So this is the second time we have this event.
　The purpose of E. Week is to be familiar with English in every occasion of school activities. So please try to use as much English as possible in the whole school.
　Speak, listen, read, and write in English. That makes you think in English.
　Please don’t be afraid of using English in every class. It is welcomed using English in every aspect. It is not compulsory. You can enjoy using English up to your interest.
　Again I can tell you that this is a good opportunity to be familiar with English.
　English is a tool of communication, and it is a tool of learning something new in all subjects.
　Please enjoy the event.

１月２８日（火）

　２日目の今日は、E-Weekセミナーが行われました。４限に１学年、５限に２学年全生徒が６つ～７つのグループにそれぞれ分かれ、外部講師による特別セミナーを受けました。授業のほとんどが英語で初めは戸惑う生徒もいましたが、普段はなかなか知り得ない内容に、興味深く、楽しく、有意義に授業を受けることができました。

１月２９日（水）

　２年生「選択音楽」の授業では、音楽担当丸山先生とALTのヘレン先生によるティームティーチングで、アメリカでよく歌われている歌を中心に授業を行いました。音楽文化の日本との違いや、その歴史なども踏まえ、数曲を皆で合唱しました。

イングリッシュ・イマージョン・ウィーク(English Immersion Week)について

このプロジェクトは来年度より本校独自の行事として本格実施を考えていますが、本年度は可能な範囲で試行することを予定しました。

目的

英語を日常的に使う雰囲気を学校全体で醸成するため、年歴の中に「英語使用推進期間」を設定します。英語科を含むすべての教科、学校活動において英語使用を推奨し教師生徒が一体となって取り組むことにより、学校全体の学習意欲喚起につなげます。

内容

学校の様子

本日1月21日（月）から一週間English Immersion Weekが始まります。


このプログラムは全校生徒に英語に親しんでもらい、一週間英語漬けになってもらおうというものです。


本日朝のホームルーム後半からさっそく1年生英語科の生徒による全校英語放送がおこなわれました。本日のワンフレーズや天気予報、校長先生の英語による挨拶など、スムーズに放送することができました。

この一週間は英語以外の授業でもなるべく英語を取り入れてみようということを考えています。特に本日の午後の授業では地理の授業で社会科教諭とALTとのティームティーチングによる授業が行われました。
アメリカの地理の紹介がテーマで、ワークシートを元に、グループごとに州のパズルをしたり、旅行の計画をねったりしました。教材がとても細かく、最初緊張していた生徒も楽しく学習することができたようです。

このEnglish Weekの様子をSBC放送が取材に来ました。22日（火）18:15からのニュースワイドで放映されました。

English Weekに寄せて本校ALTヘレンさんの英語を学習する人たちへのワンポイントアドバイスをいただきました。

Hello! I’m Helen von Gohren, one of the ALTs at Nakano Nishi. I have been asked to write some encouraging words and advice for students of English. I hope that you will find it helpful and useful.

Sometimes English can be fun and easy. Sometimes it is boring and difficult. I think this is true of everything that humans do. What can students do to make English more fun and easier for themselves?

• 1) Find your personal motivation for studying English. Teachers should encourage you to meet your personal goals, not just test goals or textbook goals. So, ask yourself “why should I learn English?” and find your answer. Do you want to travel? Become a respected scientist? Make a lot of money? Understand the words in English songs? Make foreign friends? Pass the Center Exam with a high score? Please find your goal, and work towards it! The English teachers are here to help you, especially the ALTs.

• 2) You should use English every day. This is the only way to learn a language. Use the English names for things, if you know them. Use simple English sentences for common situations. Learn the words for things you like to do, then use English to talk about them! This is simple, if you know your personal motivation. Let English become a part of you. The more you use English, the faster you will be able to speak. The faster you can speak, the faster you can listen. The faster you can speak and listen, the faster you will learn morecomplicated English!

• 3) Make mistakes happily. Communication is not about perfection. I have been speaking English for 25 years, and I make mistakes! I make spelling mistakes. I make grammar mistakes. I make pronunciation mistakes. Mistakes are natural. If you did not ever make any mistakes, I would think you were an alien from outer space, or a robot. To be human is to make mistakes! It is important to learn from your mistakes, and not to be afraid of them. Be proud of your mistakes, because they mean that you are trying and learning.

English is a part of your life, not just a subject in school. I hope all of our students at Nakano Nishi can find a way to use English naturally and confidently.
