Message from the Principal

I am Yoshimichi Hara, Principal of Nagano Prefectural Senior High School. Thank you very much for visiting our school’s website.
We are going to inform you about our educational activities and students’ daily life, so we hope you will keep on visiting this website.

Our school has a history and traditions going back 122 years because the predecessor of our school, Nagano Prefecture Junior High School, was established in 1884, which led to the opening of Nagano Prefectural Junior High School in 1899 (Meiji 32). Ever since then, under the education policies of “Consistent Pursuit of Sincerity,” “Simplicity and Fortitude,” and “Harmony and Teamwork”, we have produced over 20,000 graduates, many of whom continue to play active roles in both the local and global communities as upstanding citizens of Japan.

An anecdote about our school in the beginning has been passed down which is that all the students cut down on fuel for heating the school in order to buy a piano. The piano is still in the principal’s room as our “Sacred piano.” The piano has observed the history of our school handed down from generation to generation as students succeeded an independent spirit and kept “Consistent Pursuit of Sincerity,” “Simplicity and Fortitude,” and “Harmony and Teamwork”.
Society has changed during the school’s long history and people’s sense of values has also converted at a turning point sometime before and after WWⅡ. We think that the present circumstance we are facing is just as large or bigger than that conversion. The bases of our society are changing due to trends such as the progress of an information oriented society, artificial intelligence, the spread of the Internet, a declining birthrate, an aging society, and a decreasing population. The changes are so big that we cannot have prospects for the future.
Therefore, with changes in education, we are obliged to observe what is needed to mold the next generation.
We hope that all the students will mature as they raise questions by themselves, deliberate, pursue with assumptions, work together with others, and think about connections with society. We will look carefully to the future and push our educational activities forward with a wish for the “Sacred piano” and the spirits of “Consistent Pursuit of Sincerity,” “Simplicity and Fortitude,” and “Harmony and Teamwork” so that students will be able to play active roles as creators of the new age.
I would like to ask for your continued support of our school.
